3 Eco-Friendly Upgrades You Should Make to Your Home

Home upgrades have been on the rise for the last couple of years, as more people spend time indoors instead of out and about.  The most recent trend many are turning towards is the idea of eco-friendly upgrades.  These changes to residences are done both for aesthetic purposes and the green emphasis on what they can do for your living spaces.

These three upgrades are ones that anyone can do on their home and will improve your well-being, as well as your carbon footprint.

Buying and Using a Rain Barrel

Rain barrels go in and out of style, but they’re something that every home should have.  In areas like California, where droughts have become the norm, it’s easy to see the utility of gathering water.  Simple to install, as long as you have gutters, a rain barrel collects the water that runs off of your roof in the rain and allows for you to use it however you see fit.

The best use for this type of device is to grow a garden or increase the number of flowers you have on your lawn.  This can attract more pollinators, which also helps the environment and ensures that our ecosystem can keep going strong.

Getting A Smart Thermostat

If you have a firm grip on your thermostat, it’s time to allow technology to take over.  Smart thermostats are becoming increasingly popular, allowing homeowners to set schedules and let their air conditioning or heating turn off while they’re at work and then bring it back to temperature while they’re on their way home.

A smart thermostat also allows for you to track your usage and pay attention to times that you may be using too much electricity on your air.  These devices are so popular that they increase the value of your home, meaning if you relist it, your place will be one of the most popular pieces of real estate for sale in Whistler.

Installing A Skylight

Skylights were extraordinarily popular in home design in the 80s and 90s, but in recent years it seems like people have forgotten their utility and beauty.  These roof-fit windows can offer plenty of benefits; the most important of which is lowering your cost of electricity.

A skylight can replace artificial light as long as the sun is out, perfect for homes that are usually dark or shaded.  Another fantastic thing is if you don’t have an angled skylight, they’re wonderful to allow for you to look up and enjoy a nice few any time of the day.  Most are made with enough thick glass to stop them from changing the temperature within your home and are relatively easy for professionals to install.

Home changes don’t have to be bad for the environment!  Any of these could update your space while also reducing your carbon footprint and giving your home more utility.  We should all work to do what we can to help the environment, so why not invest in ways that can help your home’s value while you’re at it?
